The Caribbean

The last 3 ports of our cruise were Antigua, Tortola and Grand Turk. Beautiful weather, water and a large Carnival ship.
Four months has passed and it has been quite a journey. Time to say goodbye..........packed and ready to fly home on Wednesday, May 12.

Bridgetown, Barbados

We had been here once, many years ago and it was pouring rain, so we didn't see much of the island. Our tour was with the Virtuoso travel group. We drove all around the island, with a stop for lunch at Champers restaurant. A fabulous view and a wonderful meal. Barbados is a beautiful island with great beaches and hotels.

Mindelo, Cape Verde

Cape Verde was uninhabited when the Portuguese arrived in 1460. It is off the coast of Africa and achieved it's independence from Portugal in 1975. Mindelo is a colorful little city and felt a bit more upscale than our last few ports on the mainland of Africa. Because our visit was on a Sunday, almost everything was closed. Our tour consisted of a drive around the island with several photo stops along the way. The weather was great.......a breezy springlike day.

We now leave Africa and cross the Atlantic for 4 days and will arrive in Barbados on May 7.

Banjul, Gambia

Banjul is the capital of Gambia and was founded by the British as a trading post and base for suppressing the slave trade. We shuttled into the Albert Market, which is a crafts market. Walked around and were greeted by the friendly and somewhat persistent vendors. After our encounter with the very large spider (see picture), we decided it was time to head back.
